Bay County Pony League

News Detail

Mar, 2020

Questions that everybody has in regards to The Bay County PONY League season start, have been coming in daily. To help keep our lines of communication open we’ve decided to send out this email to ALL Registered Players and Parents for 2020.

The COVID-19 virus is also taking its toll on PONY Baseball and Softball nationally. PONY Leagues and Teams throughout the United States and the world have been temporarily shut down. PONY tournament events in Asia and Europe have been postponed or canceled for 2020.

Many states, including Michigan, have recommended that all non-essential businesses are to close and if necessary work from home. The PONY Headquarters staff has been asked to do the same and to work from home.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has expanded its limited social gathering policy (50 people) to May 10. WE SHOULD RECOMMEND TO OUR LEAGUES THAT THEY DELAY THE RESUMPTION OR START OF THEIR SEASON UNTIL MAY 11

How will this impact the Bay County PONY League you ask? We traditionally start our season around the last week of April. This season will be different. Our Late Registration will close this coming Sunday, March 29 at 11:59 p.m. Once closed the League will start getting down to business behind the scenes. ALL Registered Players, registered in their Home area, are divided out to those areas. The Executive Board looks at the numbers, and the League discusses the whole process.

Under normal circumstances, we would hold a Managers Meeting within a week to hand out the lists, discuss the draft procedures, etc. Determine tryout dates and times and then prepare to start the season. Under the Michigan Order from the State of Michigan, we are all in the Stay At Home order until at least Tuesday, April 14. As I’m sure all of you understand the order could be continued due to the COVID-19 virus if issues change.

Our tentative plan for the Bay County PONY League is to hold our Managers Meeting after Tuesday, April 14. At that time ALL the Executive Board and the League Managers will discuss the issues, determine tryout dates and times. We would also try to determine the actual 2020 Season start date. ALL issues we’re sure are concerned with. Our plan is to use the recommendation from PONY Baseball and Softball and start our season after May 11, 2020

We faced rain delays for the season starts before, but this different. We want everybody to be safe. As of this email, we still are planning for a 2020 season. We keep you all informed as to what will be happening.
